Her departure Thursday night came after almost five years after she became the first woman to anchor a nightly news broadcast. E!Online.com reports that Couric bid farewell following a montage featuring some of her most memorable moments, including interviews with President Barack Obama, Valerie Plame, Alex Rodriguez and Clint Eastwood, trips to the Middle East and Africa, and coverage of the Royal Wedding and the death of Osama Bin Laden

According to Reuters , the President’s speech attracted 56.5 million viewers, which is a significantly higher number than either of his two State of the Union Addresses gained.

As the comedienne told ‘ Piers Morgan Tonight ,’ (Weeknights, 9PM ET on CNN), she ended up making their encounter awkward by saying something “so lame” that she wanted to grab it and put it back in her mouth. What happened was that Obama asked her “What’s next for you” and Silverman responded by blurting out “I’m going to be naked in a movie!” After laughing hysterically at Silverman’s retelling of her gaffe, Piers Morgan wondered how Obama reacted to it in real time.
