Last night, I had a bunch of fellow Idols over for the show. My girl, Jordin Sparks made her way over, Kim Caldwell, Brandon Rogers, Didi Benami, Todrick Hall, Antonella Barba, Paul Kim, Alex Lambert and Michael Johns.

, Music , Hot Topics It’s the first week of Top 12 performances, and season 9′s first theme week: the songs of the Rolling Stones . I’m still wistful about that version of ‘I Can’t Get No Satisfaction’ just-ousted contestant Todrick Hall said he would have performed — complete with a dance break, people! — and I’m more than a little concerned that there aren’t enough rockers (read: there’s only one) amongst the Top 12 to really pull off a dozen Stones numbers

Categorizing finalists based on ethnicity or sexuality would be preposterous — but not so different from what ‘Idol’ does, which is to separate them by gender. The unfair format of dividing the top 24 finalists into two gender-based groups of 12 came to a head Tuesday, when the remaining 10 men had to step up their game a day earlier than expected, switching previously scheduled days with the girls due to Crystal Bowersox’s medical issues

Filed under: Poll Tonight was the guys’ turn to shine on the ‘American Idol’ Top 24′s second performance night. And though many have insisted that season 9 would be all about the girls, there was much intrigue over hyped performers like Andrew Garcia and Casey James. From Todrick Hall’s version of Kelly Clarkson’s ‘Since U Been Gone’ to the resurrection of Tim Urban to Tyler Grady’s leather pants, there was certainly a lot to debate.
